Groups
Groups provide individuals the opportunity to share their experiences within a communal space, receiving feedback, and learning the impact the self (your personality, feelings, and behaviors) has on other people, for purposes of highlighting those areas which are ripe for or in dire need for change. Often other individuals in a group could provide a different angle or perspective that can lead to exploring and addressing, your needs, desires, fears, etc. in a deeper more comprehensive manner than individual sessions can do alone. Your helping other group members manage their own situations can provide a sense of community and agency within your own life as well.
Groups can have the more general aim of increasing interpersonal functioning, or can be more specifically oriented toward working on specific issues. Please reach out if you are interested in joining a group.
Interpersonal Process Group
Loneliness and Intimacy: Negotiating Needs, Fears, and Desires: An Adult Psychotherapy & Interpersonal Process Group (Virtual): Tuesdays 6:00 - 7:15 PM.
This is an ongoing group co-facilitated with Kendall Schellenger Psy.D., and affiliated with Bryant West Psychology, directed by Stephen Schneider, Ph.D.
Interpersonal groups are an opportunity to understand our relationships with ourselves and others, and explore the ways in which we habitually and routinely relate. Rather than develop a specific skill, in these groups we encourage participants to pay attention to the interpersonal thoughts and reactions of all individuals, which in turn improves your own communication and relationship-building skills.
Additional Groups in development
These groups are in development and more information will be provided here once the format is determined and there is a quorum of individuals interested in joining. Please reach out if you are interested in any of these proposed groups.
1) Interpersonal Process Group — For those who cannot make the Tuesday 6pm group, noted above, another process group is being formed.
2) Lawyers — As a lawyer myself and one who has worked in the legal field, I am aware of the ways in which the law can both be rewarding and punishing as a career. This group would be for those who want to interact with other lawyers to speak about specific issues encountered in law firms and the legal fields in general.
3) Traders — This can apply to institutional or retail traders who would like to explore issues that may be getting in the way of performing at a high level. Often there are psychological phenomena that lead to making problematic decisions. This group would be a space to focus on often shameful experiences and impulses with others who have likely had similar experiences.
4) Parenting — This can apply to new parents and parents of older children alike, creating a space to explore and discuss the often difficult considerations and decisions involved with ethical parenting. Often parents want to raise their children more effectively and with care for their children’s psychological well-being, but feel despite these ideals, they perpetuate the same kinds of negative feeling cycles from their own childhoods. Group would take a particular interest in these reenactments, while also providing a supportive resource.
5) Family Roles — this group would be for those who find themselves routinely occupying a role within their family that is unwanted, yet also intransigent. Group would provide psycho-education about role development and perpetuation within families, and support members in their quest to change and interrupt the status quo.
